What Makes a Good Ski Sock?
Insulation
Insulated ski socks are essential for retaining warmth in cold conditions; helping maintain heathy blood flow and stopping numbness. Wool is one of the best insulators around. Its fibres are naturally crimped and create air pockets when packed together. These pockets trap air, which the body warms up, acting as a barrier against the cold.
Sealskinz Northwold ski socks use natural wool, keeping feet insulated in the harshest of environments. Wool is mixed in with nylon, improving elasticity and increasing the lifespan of product after repeated use.
Breathability
Breathability is as important as insulation. An intense physical activity, the body perspires when skiing. A sock that can withstand high levels of perspiration, letting excess heat and moisture vapour escape, is essential.
Seaslkinz ski socks are highly breathable, letting perspiration escape while retaining warmth. Wool is especially breathable and moisture-wicking, successfully transferring perspiration away from the skin. Feet will remain aerated throughout the day, avoiding the build-up of moisture associated with conditions like athlete’s foot.
Cushioning
Cushioning, or support, is important in ski socks as it helps to absorb shock and reduce impact on the feet during skiing. This will lessen foot fatigue, enhance comfort, and protect against blisters from the friction between the foot and the ski boot.
Our ski socks have a padded footbed, helping spread pressure evenly and reducing the risk of injury. Skiing is an impact heavy sport – padded socks are a great way of lessening this impact.
Odour Resistance
Premium ski socks are less prone to the formation of nasty odours. Naturally antimicrobial, wool is especially resistant to odour causing bacteria. Having to change your socks everyday is an unnecessary hassle. Luckily, Sealskinz Northwold socks utilise natural fibres, enabling multiple usage between washes.
Durability
Durability is at the forefront of our vision. Well-made product, built to stand the test of time, is incredibly important to us. The synthesis of wool, nylon and acrylic - the natural and the engineered - helps deliver this ambition. Nylon and acrylic are both heavily resistant to abrasion, handling the friction inherent with regular wear. Both fibres help the sock retain its shape, moulding to the natural contours of your feet.
