Sealskinz Waterproof Socks
Sealskinz waterproof socks combine complete waterproofness with excellent breathability, letting excess heat and perspiration escape. Feet will remain dry and aerated in the toughest conditions. Choose from an array of options for different climates and activities.
How do waterproof socks work?
Our waterproof socks achieve their function through multi-layer construction that keeps external moisture out while letting sweat escape. Our patented Aquasealz™ membrane is fully waterproof and breathable, setting them apart from any other sock claiming to be waterproof. Our socks typically have an outer durable shell to resist abrasion and wear, a middle layer of our waterproof membrane that blocks water but lets sweat out, and a soft inner liner that touches the skin, absorbs sweat, and helps regulate temperature. Some of our waterproof socks also include a Hydrostop™ or TPU bond at the cuff, a strip of material designed to seal the sock’s upper opening against the leg to reduce water running down into the sock from above. In short: waterproof socks work by combining a sealed barrier to external water with breathable internal layers, so your feet stay dry in wet terrain while moisture from sweat is vented outward.
Can waterproof socks prevent blisters?
Yes, when used correctly, waterproof socks can help reduce certain blister risks. The waterproof membrane keeps external wetness out, which is critical, because wet skin is far more susceptible to blistering when friction occurs. By maintaining dryness around the sock-skin interface, waterproof socks help reduce one major blister risk. However, blister formation involves a combination of friction, heat, moisture, and pressure. Even with a waterproof sock, if your boot fit is poor, your socks may bunch or slide and you may still get blisters. To mitigate that, the inner liner materials, such as the merino wool and bamboo our socks use, should wick moisture from the skin, smoothing the contact surface and reducing friction. Overall, waterproof socks help create a drier environment less conducive to blister formation, but they must be paired with good fit, moisture management, and friction control.
What are the best socks for wet hikes?
The best socks for wet hikes are those that combine a fully waterproof yet breathable membrane with moisture-wicking inner layers and a durable outer shell. Sealskinz waterproof socks use Aquasealz™ technology to block rain and puddle splashes while still letting sweat escape, helping to keep feet dry and comfortable on the trail. Options with merino wool linings regulate temperature, while features like Hydrostop™ cuffs reduce water ingress from above. Whether you’re trekking through rain, crossing streams, or tackling muddy terrain, Sealskinz waterproof socks provide reliable protection without sacrificing comfort or fit.
