Join us in this week’s blog as we sit down with CMO, and former GB runner, Rich Edmonds.
When did you start running?
Like most kids, I started running doing cross-country and athletics races at school. I was lucky enough to have a passionate runner as a teacher at primary school, Mr Bursnall, who was keen to share his love of running with all of us. That love of running developed into competing and at the age of 13 I joined my first athletics club, Charnwood AC, based at Loughborough.
What do you love about running?
For me, the best thing about running is that, even though it’s individual, there is such a brilliant community that supports each other. I have been from competing at a national level to now just running for the sheer love and freedom of it, and I’ve met countless runners along the way that have become my best friends. Wherever you are in the world, you can get a pair of trainers on and some great kit, and you are away. It’s always accessible.
What have you learnt from competing?
I loved the competition part of my running life - it took me to many new places around the world - and the discipline to train day in, day out, even when you don’t feel like it, has given me life skills which are invaluable. Running is a true sport: if you don’t do the work, you don’t get the results! You learn that a little bit of improvement every day over a long period of time gets the results you want.
How does running fit into your life now?
I run 3 times a week, along with cycling and some gym work, when I can fit it in around a family! I am lucky enough to work with a great product team at Sealskinz, where I can test new kit on a weekly basis! The Sealskinz run collection really is made for runners, by runners. We never stop developing!
What’s next?
I still love to have an event in the diary to keep me focused. I will be running the Great North Run alongside our CFO, Michelle, and then later this year, a half Ironman. Got to keep moving!
