We are proud to support StrongMen, a UK charity that supports men following bereavement, on their Kilimanjaro challenge in October 2024.
Grief can cause severe emotional and physical health conditions which are often overlooked and even ignored, especially in men. StrongMen helps the bereaved manage grief through telephone-based peer support, free counselling, talks, and Weekender Retreats.
The StrongMen ‘Weekender Retreat’ is an opportunity for bereaved men to engage in conversation and physical activities in a safe, secure environment. Although they may meet as complete strangers, spending time with other men experiencing bereavement - who truly understand and empathise - helps create lasting and important friendships.
In October 2024 the charity will embark on their biggest adventure to date, with 20 bereaved men, including StrongMen staff, climbing Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro.
Each and everyone taking part will have their own special reason for doing so, helping highlight men’s grief and awareness for the charity. As well as raising awareness, StrongMen are aiming to raise money to fund 2025’s Weekender events.
Before summiting Kilimanjaro, the group are completing a rigorous training process with the support of Sealskinz waterproof accessories, climbing a number of mountains in the UK and learning to deal with the impact of altitude.
The group will take on Snowdon in early September, before a final few weeks of preparation.
